The Philosophy of Science and Technology Department of South China Normal University is a key discipline of Guangdong Province. In 2000, the department was able to confer Doctorate Degree in the discipline of Philosophy of Science and Technology. Since the end of the 1990s, the department has been rated as a key discipline of Guangdong Province for three consecutive rounds; it has become a key discipline of the "211 Project" in South China Normal University for three consecutive rounds.

In August 2019, the Institute for Science, Technology and Society of South China Normal University was established as a teaching and research institution, based on the discipline of Philosophy of Science and Technology.
