1. About South China Normal University
Founded in 1933, South China Normal University (SCNU) is a key university with a long history of cultivating talents, a comprehensive range of disciplines and rapid development momentum. Recent years have witnessed its becoming a member of “Project 211”, the co-construction of SCNU by Guangdong Provincial Government and Ministry of Education, its entry into Guangdong High-Level University Sponsoring Project and its entering the national project of “World-class Disciplines Construction”.
2. About Institute for Science, Technology and Society
The Institute for Science, Technology and Society of South China Normal University was founded in 2019 as a teaching and research institution. The institute offers master and doctorate programs in Philosophy of Science and Technology, and master program in Science and Technology Education. Also, it has a postdoctoral research station. The institute has key scientific, research and decision-making consulting bodies embedded in the institute include: Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences in universities of Guangdong Province, the "System Science and System Management Research Center of South China Normal University"; University-level Scientific Research Platform: the " Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Technology Innovation and Science Education Research Center of South China Normal University ", "Science and Technology Revolution and the Future of Human Research Center", and the “Science and Technology Ethics Governance Research Center”.
The Science and Technology Education discipline at the institute devotes to nurture high-level science teachers in science teaching at the primary and middle-school levels, and practical science courses at the middle- and high-school levels. The institute’s research focuses include: STEAM education in primary and middle-school levels, focuses on the interdisciplinary ability building of science teachers; Students’ science literacy assessment, focuses on the assessment ability building of science teachers; Science popularization and science communication, focuses on high-level professionals of science popularization.

Researchers in Science and Technology Education (including STEM education, History of Science and Technology, Science Communication and Science teaching); Researchers with science background (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology and Computer science etc.) and interest in science education.
4. Talent Level and Application Requirements
(1) Outstanding Talent
Candidates, preferably under 55 years old, should have great academic reputation and leadership. He/She is expected to have achieved internationally recognized landmark research achievements and have had abundant research achievements in recent 5 years. Candidates can assume the leading role in the field of his/her research after employment and can be qualified to be listed in major national talent programs or those with equivalent academic level.
(2) Leading Talent
Candidates, preferably under 50 years old, are expected to have great academic leadership and have achieved nationally recognized landmark achievement and have abundant research achievements in recent 5 years. Candidates can assume the leading role in his/her discipline or field of research after employment.
(3) Outstanding Young Talent
In principle, the candidates' age should not exceed 40 years old if he/she has a doctoral degree of natural science and should not exceed 45 years old if he/she has a doctoral degree of art, philosophy, humanities and social sciences. The candidates should have achieved original scientific research results and well-recognized by experts in the field and have the eligibility of national-level elite programs or have great potential for development.
(4) Young Talent
The age of the candidates, preferably under 35, can be prolonged to 38 if he/she has outstanding academic performance in art, philosophy, humanities and social sciences. Candidates are preferred with below background: 1. Doctorate degree or postdoctoral research gained or undertaken in universities or institutions such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, discipline at universities ranked no lower than A level in Ministry of Education evaluation or, 2. The top 200 universities in the world (internationally recognized four global university rankings: ARWU, QS, THE, US News, the same hereinafter). Candidates are expected to have achieved original research results in the field with impressive academic potentiality and vitality.
(5) Young Talent (Post-doctors)
The candidates, preferably under 35, are preferred with below background: 1. Doctorate degree or postdoctoral research gained or undertaken in universities or institutions such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, domestic universities and discipline ranked no lower than SCNU in comprehensive competitiveness or, 2. The top 500 universities in the world. The candidates are expected to have achieved good research results in the field with outstanding academic potentiality and vitality. Young Talent (Post-doctors) will be also included in the national or provincial postdoctoral management.
(6) Post-doctors
The candidates, preferably under 35, are expected to have gained his/her doctorate degree with certain academic potentiality and vitality.
5. Reward & Treatment
5.1 Employment Rewards
(1) Outstanding Talent & Leading Talent
Candidates can be recruited as Professor or Researcher. SCNU will provide competitive annual salary and housing allowance. Research start-up fund will be provided according to discipline foundation and actual needs. SCNU will also help build the research team.
(2) Outstanding Young Talent
The candidates can be recruited as Professor, Associate Professor or position of equivalent level. The candidates will be rewarded with an annual pre-tax salary of 300,000-600,000 yuan. Housing Allowance of up to pre-tax 2 million yuan will be provided. Research start-up fund will be provided according to discipline foundation and actual needs.
(3) Young Talent, Young Talent (Post-doctors), Post-doctors
① Salary, Rewards and Rental Allowance (excluding Social Insurances and Housing Provident Fund paid by SCNU)
Young Talent will be employed for a term of 3 years as Special Researcher. The total payment is 274,000 yuan per year, namely basic salary of 150,000 yuan, annual rewards of 100,000 yuan and rental allowance of 24,000 yuan.
Young Talent (Post-doctors) will be employed for a term of 3 years as Special Associate Researcher. The total payment is 254,000 yuan per year, namely basic salary is based on the post-doctoral funding of 150,000 yuan provided by the state and Guangdong Province, annual rewards of 80,000 yuan and rental allowance of 24,000 yuan.
Post-doctors will be employed for a term of 2 years as Special Assistant Researcher. The basic salary is based on the post-doctoral funding of 150,000 yuan per year provided by the state and Guangdong Province.
② Performance Rewards: During the term of employment, a candidate as project leader, can apply for rewards from the first month of employment if he/she successfully obtains any of the following scientific research projects under SCNU: For a project supported by Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the candidate will enjoy awards of 20,000 yuan per year. For a project supported by Social Science Project of Ministry of Education or National Education Scientific Planning (ministerial level), the candidate will enjoy awards of 30,000 yuan per year. For a project supported by National Foundation for Young Scholars or National Education Scientific Planning(state level), the candidate will enjoy rewards of 50,000 yuan per year. For a project supported by National Foundation for General Programs or Nation Postdoctoral Creative Talents Planning, the candidate will enjoy rewards of 100,000 yuan per year. Those who apply for several projects supported by Postdoctoral Science Foundation will be awarded only once; those who apply for several projects mentioned above will be awarded highest one without repetition.
5.2 Other Benefits
(1) The candidate's children of Outstanding Talent, Leading Talent and Outstanding Young Talent can apply to study in the affiliated kindergarten, primary school and middle school of SCNU according to relevant regulations. The candidate's children of Young Talent and Young Talent (Post-doctors) can apply to study in the affiliated kindergarten and primary school of SCNU according to relevant regulations. The candidate's children of Post-doctors can apply to study in the affiliated kindergarten and primary school of SCNU other than Shipai campus according to relevant regulations.
(2) When housing resources are sufficient, the Young Talent (Post-doctors) can apply for renting postdoctoral apartments, but can no longer enjoy rental allowance.
